Vivitrol

We offer the VIVITROL injection to our patients as an additional service. Administered during the rapid detox procedure, VIVITROL works by blocking the effects of opiates for 30 days. This is the first and only non-addictive medication designed to prevent relapse following detox.

VIVITROL works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain as an antagonist. In the brain, antagonists attach to opioid receptors without causing the release of dopamine. This creates a barrier that blocks opioid molecules from attaching to the receptors. As a result, patients may be able to avoid relapse without use of a medication that results in addiction or dependency.

Since opiate addiction can have far-reaching psychological and physical effects, the manufacturers of VIVITROL have worked to provide the medication component for an effective treatment program. For best results, VIVITROL is meant to be used in conjunction with counseling or other drug recovery programs.
